Vaccination Against HPV Among Boys Increases from 47% to 74% in the State of SP in 2025; Coverage Among Girls Reaches 86%

Data from the government of São Paulo shows an increase in HPV vaccination rates among boys and girls aged 9 to 14.

On International HPV Awareness Day, the São Paulo state government announced significant improvements in HPV vaccination rates among children and adolescents aged 9 to 14. The vaccination coverage among boys rose from 47.35% in 2022 to 74.78% by 2025, indicating a notable increase in acceptance of the vaccine. Girls in the same age group also saw an increase in vaccination rates, climbing from 81.85% to 86.76% during the same period.

Despite the positive trend, health officials emphasize that the goal set by the National Immunization Program (PNI) is to achieve a 90% vaccination coverage rate. The state health department, Secretaria de Estado da Saúde (SES), points out the necessity of parental engagement to improve collective immunity and to help minimize the transmission of the HPV virus. This call to action underscores the role that families play in public health initiatives.

The increase in vaccination rates can be attributed to targeted strategies such as enhanced outreach efforts, community mobilization, and educational campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the importance of HPV vaccination. While the recent statistics show progress, health authorities are striving to reach and exceed the set immunization benchmarks to ensure better health outcomes and reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers in the future.
