HPV vaccination campaign begins in São Luís
A multivaccination campaign against HPV has started in São Luís, targeting adolescents aged 15 to 19.
The multivaccination campaign against HPV commenced on Friday, October 27, in São Luís, Brazil, and it will continue through Saturday at the Rio Anil Shopping Center. The campaign aims to enhance vaccination coverage and update vaccination cards for the identified demographic. The preferred participants are adolescents and young adults aged between 15 and 19 years, who are required to present a photo ID and their vaccination card to receive the vaccine.
According to Mayra Nina Araújo, the Assistant Secretary for Primary Health Care and Health Surveillance, the HPV vaccine is crucial for preventing various types of cancer, including cervical, penile, and oral cancers. Although the vaccine is typically administered to children and adolescents aged 9 to 14, the current strategy includes a 'catch-up' initiative that allows individuals aged 15 to 19 years to receive the vaccine if they missed their doses at the recommended age. This approach reflects a proactive measure to ensure broader immunization and protection against HPV-related health risks.
The campaign not only underscores the significance of vaccination in public health but also highlights the ongoing efforts by health authorities to ensure that younger populations are adequately protected against HPV. By targeting this specific age group, the public health initiative emphasizes prevention as a vital component in combating HPV-related diseases, fostering greater awareness among the youth about the benefits of vaccination and early intervention in health strategies.
