Yoo Hyeong-yeol, who is expected to run for mayor of Cheongju under the Democratic Party, has reached the tenth day of his hunger strike. In a statement released on the 4th, Yoo expressed that although he is nearing his physical limits, he has no intention of stopping. He aims to receive a judgment from the citizens of Cheongju rather than being subjected to the machinations of political factions. Yoo, who has a background as a former administrative officer in the Moon Jae-in administration, applied for the mayoral candidacy but found his qualifications on hold as he was categorized for detailed examination. Since beginning his protest on the 23rd of last month in front of the Democratic Party’s Chungbuk provincial headquarters, he has continued his hunger strike.
