Kim Dong-yeon Leads Suitability for Gyeonggi Governor, While Choo Mi-ae Is Ahead Among Democratic Supporters

As South Korea approaches the local elections on June 3rd, recent polling conducted for the Gyeonggi governor race indicates a tight contest between the current governor, Kim Dong-yeon, and Democratic Party lawmaker Choo Mi-ae. According to a survey by Gyeongin Ilbo, 20% of respondents support Choo, while 15% favor Kim. Other candidates trailing include Kim Eun-hye from the People Power Party with 11%, and Han Jun-ho from the Democratic Party with 8%. Additionally, a separate poll by Joongbu Ilbo shows a tie between Choo and Kim at 20% each. This close competition underlines the intense dynamics within the Democratic Party as it prepares for the gubernatorial elections.
Further analysis of the polls indicates Kim Dong-yeon fares better overall among potential candidates, having a higher suitability rating compared to Choo Mi-ae when both Democratic candidates are considered. In the Gyeongin Ilbo poll, Kim led with 27% suitability compared to Choo's 21%, and in the Joongbu Ilbo poll, Kim maintained a more considerable lead with 35% over Chooβs 22%.
