Jung Won-oh: 'Not a Waste of Tax Money, I Will Run for Mayor of Seoul'
Jung Won-oh, the mayor of Seongdong-gu and a candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination for Seoul mayor, has officially announced his intention to run for the office.
Jung Won-oh, the district chief of Seongdong-gu and a favored candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination for mayor of Seoul, has officially declared his intention to run for the position. At a book concert for his publication titled "Very Satisfied Jung Won-oh" held in the Mullaedong area of Yeongdeungpo on the afternoon of the 8th, he expressed his commitment to the mayoral campaign. The event was attended by other prominent party members, which underscored his support within the party and his past experience in local governance.
During his announcement, Jung emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of Seoul’s citizens over administrative desires, highlighting that many residents feel their tax money is being wasted on initiatives not aligned with public demand. He outlined his vision for a city that promotes safety, convenience, and support for citizens, asserting that local governance should reflect the desires and challenges faced by its residents. He also spoke to the influence of former President Lee Jae-myung's effective administration in Seongnam, which he sees as a benchmark for his governance approach.
Attending lawmakers praised Jung’s impressive record, citing a high satisfaction rate in district governance and comparing his trajectory to that of other major city mayors worldwide. The choice of venue for his announcement, a site that symbolized transformation within the district, served to reinforce his message of change and the potential for replication across Seoul. Jung plans to formally announce his candidacy post-Lunar New Year, once he resigns from his current role as district chief.
