Oh Seok-kyu, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and a Gyeonggi Provincial Councilor, has announced his candidacy for the mayor of Uijeongbu in a press conference held at Uijeongbu City Hall. He expressed his intent to become a loyal instrument for the Uijeongbu citizens and highlighted that the city is facing three major crises: financial instability, future development challenges, and citizen sovereignty. He pointed out concerning statistics such as Uijeongbu's low financial independence and gross regional product rankings among Gyeonggi cities, calling for urgent changes to boost the city's competitiveness.

As part of his administration vision, Oh proposed to implement AI-based administrative innovations and improve citizens' lives, outlining key policies such as the establishment of a new Dong-Uijeongbu Station linked to the GTX-G line and promoting balanced development between the east and west of the city. He also emphasized the importance of creating a 24-hour livable city and fostering specialized industries to attract businesses. Additionally, he shared plans to enhance education through expanded support for care and educational facilities and to revive Uijeongbu as a leading education city in northern Gyeonggi.

Focusing on financial solutions, Oh committed to utilizing the authority granted to mayors to secure external funding from central government offices and the National Assembly. He also addressed structural financial burdens, including the losses from the light rail operation, promising to collaborate with the central government to seek solutions. Furthermore, he highlighted the need to develop cultural and tourism strategies to increase external visitors and expand the local economy through cultural content development. Oh concluded by reaffirming his resolve to restore Uijeongbu from its crises and lay down the foundation for future growth.
