Expanding the support program for entrepreneurs in Daugavpils, hopes for re-emigrant activity in the city

Daugavpils expands its grant program to support local entrepreneurs and attract re-emigrants to boost the city's economy.

The city of Daugavpils has announced the expansion of its grant support program known as "Impulss," aimed at helping local entrepreneurs. Originally launched in 2014, the program has provided financial incentives to stimulate new businesses within the city, with a total of 50,000 euros allocated in its first year. Over the years, the program has supported 106 projects out of more than 300 proposals, showcasing its success in fostering sustainable business activity in the area. This initiative is part of a broader effort to attract individuals who have previously emigrated to return to the city and contribute to local economic development.

One notable success story from the grant program is the family-run mini-bakery "Nekomimi," which received support in 2020 to purchase essential equipment for their operations. The owner, Tatjana Belicka-Hsu, credited the grant as a crucial stepping stone that allowed them to kickstart their business, enabling them to acquire baking ovens, furniture, and facilities necessary for operations. The success of "Nekomimi" exemplifies how targeted financial support can lead to thriving local enterprises in Daugavpils and stimulate job creation within the community.

The expansion of the "Impulss" program reflects the Daugavpils municipality's commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and enhancing the local business environment. City officials, including the head of the Development Department, Daina Krīviņa, see the increase in supported projects as a positive sign of resilience and growth among local businesses. With the hopes of re-emigrants returning to the city, the continued investment in local entrepreneurship is expected to play a key role in revitalizing the economy of Daugavpils, creating opportunities for residents, and ensuring long-term sustainability of local businesses.
