Piauí Government announces works for Jaicós water supply system and Parnaíba reservoir
The Governor of Piauí announced significant investments in water infrastructure and drainage, including the construction of a water supply system in Jaicós and a reservoir in Parnaíba, with a total investment exceeding R$ 200 million.
The Governor of Piauí, Rafael Fonteles, recently announced critical investments in the state's water infrastructure, which are vital for the local population. During a press conference, he confirmed the ongoing construction of a water supply system (adutora) in the municipality of Jaicós and a large reservoir (Piscinão) in the neighborhood of Piauí in Parnaíba. This project, part of the Federal Government's Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), will receive over R$ 200 million across both initiatives, with plans to sign service orders in the coming days.
Governor Fonteles described the Jaicós water supply system as a strategic undertaking aimed at bolstering the water infrastructure in the central-southern region of Piauí, an area that has historically suffered from long droughts. He emphasized the importance of these infrastructures not only for immediate water access but also for the long-term sustainability of the region's water resources. The ongoing construction is indicative of the government's commitment to improving living conditions and addressing the critical water shortages faced by the local population.
The announcement of these projects is particularly timely given the frequent water crises affecting the region, leading to rising concerns about water security among residents. With the completion of these works, the state government aims to alleviate some of the water scarcity issues in Piauí, paving the way for economic growth and improved quality of life for its citizens. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance public services and infrastructure, demonstrating the government's proactive approach to addressing the urgent needs of its constituents.
