With an investment of R$ 3.5 billion, the Government of Piauí recovers 90% of highways
The Government of Piauí has invested R$ 3.5 billion to successfully recover 90% of the state’s highways, enhancing regional infrastructure and connectivity from 2023 to 2025.
The Government of Piauí has made substantial investments in the state's infrastructure, particularly its highway system, with a budget of approximately R$ 3.5 billion allocated between 2023 and 2025. This investment has resulted in the recovery of over 8,000 kilometers of roads and the construction of 1,200 kilometers of new highways. The initiative aims to strengthen connectivity between municipalities and enhance the integration of Piauí with neighboring states, facilitating economic growth and development in the region.
During a ceremony at the Palácio de Karnak, Governor Rafael Fonteles presented these impressive results, highlighting that Piauí currently ranks first in highway quality in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil and fifth nationwide. The director-general of the Department of Highways of Piauí, Leonardo Sobral, emphasized their commitment to completing the recovery of the entire highway network by the end of this year, noting that approximately 90% of the state’s roads have already been restored.
The infrastructure improvements not only demonstrate the local government's priorities but also reflect broader goals of enhancing regional accessibility and sustainability. As the state pushes towards achieving complete restoration, the impacts are poised to ripple through local economies, improving logistics and potentially attracting further investments to Piauí, which can play a significant role in strengthening its position within Brazil as a whole.
