Suspect of being part of a gang that scams business owners in the coast of SP arrested
A suspect linked to a gang extorting business owners in São Paulo's coastal region has been arrested following police operations.
The Civil Police of Santos in São Paulo arrested a suspect during operations against individuals accused of extorting business owners in the Baixada Santista area. The arrested individual, whose identity was not disclosed, was wanted by the authorities for failing to pay child support. This arrest was made as part of a broader investigation by the Specialized Criminal Investigations Department (Deic), which has been looking into this gang's activities for several months, focusing on their tactics of targeting entrepreneurs for scams and extortion.
According to TV Tribuna, an affiliate of Globo, the investigation utilized intelligence gathering to initiate a police inquiry, which remains confidential. The investigative efforts led to the discovery of two other suspects in Franca, a city in inland São Paulo. Police conducted operations to execute search and seizure warrants connected to these suspects, indicating the ongoing efforts to dismantle the criminal organization and prevent further harm to local businessmen.
This case highlights the continuing challenges faced by entrepreneurs in Brazil from organized crime, particularly those focused on scamming and extorting business owners.
