Criminal Group Strikes Finland – Half a Million Euro Worth of Loot
A Lithuanian criminal group has been implicated in thefts across Finland, with stolen items valued at half a million euros, mostly comprising boat engines and other valuables.
A Lithuanian criminal organization has targeted various locations across Finland, stealing significant amounts of property estimated at half a million euros. The offenses, which took place over several months in the years 2024 and 2025, included the theft of high-value items such as boat motors. The police in Central Finland initiated an investigation after apprehending suspects in November, specifically related to the theft of €200,000 worth of boat engines, which led to their capture in Valkeakoski as they were caught red-handed.
In addition to Valkeakoski, the suspects are believed to have executed similar thefts in Porvoo, Sipoo, Raasepori, and Raisio. Despite their sophisticated operations and planning, the police have yet to recover any of the stolen assets. Authorities describe the operation as highly organized, indicating that the group operated methodically by surveilling their targets in advance, using misleading names and prepaid mobile phones to avoid detection. Their approach also included the use of multiple vehicles and specialized equipment suitable for transporting heavy engines, showcasing a level of premeditation in carrying out their criminal activities.
This investigation highlights the growing issue of organized crime in the region and the cross-border elements involved, as the criminal activities are believed to be orchestrated from Lithuania. The effective response from law enforcement underscores the importance of proactive policing and intercountry collaboration in tackling such sophisticated criminal enterprises that exploit vulnerabilities in security across national borders.
