Police uncovered a broad series of thefts by a Lithuanian criminal group – outboard motors were stolen from a boat factory
The police in Central Finland have exposed a Lithuanian criminal group involved in thefts totaling around 500,000 euros across Finland between 2024 and 2025.
The Central Finland police have revealed the operation of a Lithuanian criminal group suspected of stealing property worth approximately 500,000 euros from various locations throughout Finland between 2024 and 2025. The investigation, which started last September, was prompted by the theft of outboard motors valued at around 200,000 euros from a boat factory in Valkeakoski. As the investigation progressed, the police were able to identify the suspects and gather substantial evidence against them.
The criminal group is believed to have committed multiple serious thefts in regions such as Valkeakoski, Porvoo, Sipoo, Raasepori, and Raisio. On several nights, the group conducted operations to steal, showcasing a well-organized methodology. Police Commissioner Antti Uusipaikka noted that the suspects were apprehended in November of last year while allegedly planning to execute more similar crimes in Valkeakoski, indicating the group's ongoing threat to property security in the area.
The investigation has now moved to the prosecution stage, with the suspects currently held in custody. Their identities were known to the police early in the inquiry, allowing for a swift and focused response. The case highlights the challenges Finnish law enforcement faces from organized crime networks operating across borders, and it raises concerns about security measures in the affected regions as the authorities seek to curb similar criminal activities in the future.
