Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has confirmed that around 2000 Latvian nationals residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are currently safe. This reassurance came after a phone conversation she had with UAE President Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who emphasized the UAE's commitment to providing necessary support to foreign visitors, including Latvian citizens. The president also indicated that additional assistance would be available if required.

During her discussion with President Al Nahyan, Siliņa condemned the recent attacks by the Iranian regime against the UAE and other regional nations, likening such aggression to the violence perpetrated by Russia against Ukraine. This comparison underscores the growing concern over regional security in the context of heightened tensions involving Iran, particularly following military actions in the area that have involved Israel and the United States targeting sites in Iran.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed potential collaboration in drone interception technologies, highlighting Latvia's interest in the UAE's effective air defense capabilities. The conversation reflects a strengthening of ties between Latvia and the UAE, particularly in light of current security challenges and military developments in the region.
