Ambassador: Latvians should not try to escape from the UAE at the moment
Latvian Ambassador Dana Goldfinch advises Latvians in the UAE not to attempt to leave overland, urging them to wait for a resolution to the situation.
In light of ongoing unrest in the region, Latvian Ambassador to the UAE, Dana Goldfinch, has advised Latvian citizens not to attempt to leave the country via land routes at this time. Instead, she recommends that they remain patient and await further developments regarding the situation on the ground. Currently, around 2,000 Latvian nationals are believed to be in the UAE, amid reported incidents of violence, particularly in Abu Dhabi, while Dubai has remained relatively calm.
Goldfinch highlighted the increased activity at the embassy, with many citizens reaching out for information about their options to exit the UAE and other practical concerns. The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recorded 478 citizens registered for short-term travel to the UAE, alongside smaller numbers for other neighboring countries, indicating a heightened awareness and concern for those in potentially volatile areas. The embassy is handling a surge of inquiries as citizens seek guidance on how to ensure their safety amid the rising tensions.
In this context, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of staying informed and monitoring travel advisories, as the situation is fluid and statistics about nationals traveling in or out of affected regions are subject to change. The embassy's approach reflects a cautious stance prioritizing citizen welfare while also balancing the need for transparency about the evolving security landscape in the UAE.
