Lozbers wins silver in the sprint distance at the World Youth Championship
Latvian athlete Rihards Lozbers claimed a silver medal in the 7.5-kilometer sprint at the World Youth Biathlon Championship in Germany.
On Tuesday, Latvian athlete Rihards Lozbers achieved an impressive feat by securing a silver medal in the 7.5-kilometer sprint at the World Youth Biathlon Championship held in Germany. Competing in the under-19 age category, the 16-year-old Lozbers had a few shooting errors, including two misses while shooting prone and one miss while standing, finishing the race in 18 minutes and 47.6 seconds with a total of three penalty laps. Despite his shooting difficulties, he showcased exceptional skiing speed, finishing well ahead of many competitors.
The gold medal was won by Slovakia's Markus Sklenárik, who flawlessly hit all his targets and beat Lozbers' time by 19 seconds. The bronze medal was claimed by Germany's Hannes Lipferts, who finished 44.8 seconds behind Sklenárik while making one penalty lap. Lozbers' outstanding performance in skiing, where he was the fastest on the track, allowed him to finish more than 40 seconds ahead of his nearest rivals, highlighting his strength in the sport.
This achievement marks Lozbers' third medal at this year's World Youth and Junior Championships, reflecting his continued success and growth as a biathlete. The competitive field saw other Latvian participants, including Rūdolfs Raudziņš in 25th place, Ernests Solovjovs in 72nd, and Rainer Krišmanis in 79th place, indicating a challenging event for the team but showcasing Lozbers' standout performance in the competition.
