The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an increase in the number of trips on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, effective from March 6, 2026, to better meet the growing demand from passengers. This decision follows a statement made by NRC's Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, indicating that the new schedule aims to provide more travel options and enhance service delivery on this busy corridor. The NRC is responding to a significant increase in ridership and aims to restore confidence in rail travel after previous disruptions.

Previously, the Abuja-Kaduna corridor had faced operational challenges due to incidents such as a bomb blast in March 2022 and a derailment in August 2025, which had drastically decreased the number of functional trains from three to one. Following these events, the NRC had also adjusted their operations by implementing Temporary Speed Restrictions for safety. With safety improvements now in place, the NRC is looking to expand their services to better cater to the demands of commuters in the region.

The augmentation of train services signifies a crucial step towards revitalizing rail transport in Nigeria and providing residents with improved mobility options.
