The Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates with 'airBaltic' regarding potential resumption of flights to the Middle East

Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in discussions with the national airline 'airBaltic' about resuming flights to the Middle East when the security situation allows.

Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ĀM) has announced that it is coordinating with the national airline 'airBaltic' to explore the potential for resuming flights to the Middle East. This comes in light of the current security situation, which the Ministry assures will be closely monitored before any decisions are made. According to information provided by the agency LETA, the focus is on ensuring the safety of Latvian travelers as soon as conditions permit.

Currently, there are short-term travel registrations by Latvian citizens to various Middle Eastern destinations, including 478 to the United Arab Emirates, 25 to Israel, and smaller numbers to Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan. This highlights a continued interest in travel to the region, despite ongoing monitoring of the security landscape, which remains dynamic and subject to change. ĀM emphasizes that all citizens should stay informed through local official media about any changes in the security situation.

The Ministry has also noted that the airspace over most Middle Eastern countries remains closed, except for Oman and Saudi Arabia, where air alarms continue to be reported. Nonetheless, flights from other airlines, such as 'Etihad Airways', are reportedly able to operate from Abu Dhabi, indicating that there might still be options for travelers as conditions evolve. The Ministry is urging citizens to heed instructions from local authorities as they navigate these circumstances.
