Repatriation of Latvian Citizens from the Middle East Region Completed

Latvia's national airline airBaltic has successfully completed repatriation flights, bringing 569 Latvian citizens and their families back from Dubai amid ongoing regional crises.

Latvia's national airline, airBaltic, has facilitated four repatriation flights organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, returning 569 Latvian citizens and their family members from Dubai to Riga. These flights were part of a broader effort by the Latvian government to support its citizens who registered with the consulate and requested assistance in leaving the crisis-affected Middle East region. Overall, it is estimated that around 700 Latvians have left this area, with some returning on airBaltic flights and others utilizing repatriation services provided by other EU member states, or opting for independent travel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledges that not all individuals registered with the consulate currently intend to leave their host countries. This indicates a growing complacency among some citizens who may feel secure in their current situations. However, most who wished to depart from the affected Middle Eastern countries have been provided with options to do so. Additionally, the Ministry has observed a gradual restoration of flight availability, suggesting a return to normalcy in air travel to these regions.

At this point, the Ministry does not plan to organize further repatriation flights, reflecting a broader conclusion as other EU countries also wrap up similar repatriation processes. Going forward, assistance will continue in other forms, but the urgency of organized repatriation is diminishing as the immediate crisis recedes.
