Procon SP finds lack of prices and expired products in 30 of 116 businesses in Baixada Santista
Procon SP's summer operation discovered significant compliance issues in the food and retail sectors in Baixada Santista, with 30 out of 116 establishments inspected found violating consumer protection regulations.
During the summer operation known as 'Operação Verão', Procon SP conducted inspections of various businesses in the tourist region of Baixada Santista between January 6 and February 18. This initiative targeted an array of establishments, including supermarkets, restaurants, bars, bakeries, clothing stores, pharmacies, and cosmetic shops, ensuring consumer rights and safety during the peak tourist season.
In total, Procon SP assessed 116 businesses across several municipalities such as Bertioga, Guarujá, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, Peruíbe, Praia Grande, Santos, and São Vicente. The inspections revealed compliance violations in 30 businesses, with the most common issues being the absence of price information, sale of expired products or those lacking a validity date, and missing mandatory information like batch number, manufacturer details, nutritional information, ingredients, allergens, and product origin.
The municipalities of Praia Grande and Santos were highlighted for having the highest number of infractions. This report underscores the importance of diligent monitoring in tourist hotspots to ensure consumer safety and suggests a need for better regulatory compliance among local businesses in order to protect consumers and uphold fair trade practices.
