Procon identifies the absence of mandatory signs and notifies kiosks at Guarujá beach
The Procon of Guarujá has conducted inspections on kiosks to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Code during the summer operation.
The Procon of Guarujá, located on São Paulo's coastline, carried out a significant inspection operation involving around 400 establishments as part of the Summer Operation organized by the Secretariat of Economic and Port Development (Sedep). Kicking off on January 12 and concluding on January 22, the initiative aimed to reinforce compliance with the Consumer Protection Code (CDC) and ensure that both kiosks and vendors are aware of their responsibilities under the law.
During the operation, agents actively engaged with the public on the beach, distributing informational brochures and providing guidance to bathers, tourists, and merchants regarding unfair pricing practices and irregular charges. The focus was primarily on educating participants about the importance of adhering to the regulatory standards of the Procon, which included informing kiosks and food carts about the legal requirements, particularly regarding the sale of alcohol to minors.
Although several commercial establishments were notified for failing to meet certain standards, the municipality opted not to impose fines during this inspection phase, highlighting the Procon's approach of prioritizing education and compliance over punitive measures. These efforts are significant in the context of consumer rights protection, especially in busy tourist areas, ensuring both the vendors and consumers are aware of their rights and responsibilities to foster a fair trading environment.
