Rain in Minas: Caixa releases calamity withdrawal from FGTS; minister says measures used in RS can be applied in MG

The Caixa bank has announced the activation of calamity withdrawals from the FGTS for workers in specific cities of Minas Gerais affected by heavy rains.

The Caixa bank in Brazil has announced that workers in the cities of Juiz de Fora, Matias Barbosa, and Ubá in Minas Gerais can begin requesting calamity withdrawals from the Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço (FGTS) starting Friday due to severe storms that impacted the region. The calamity withdrawal allows a maximum amount of R$ 6,220.00 for each account, necessitating that the account has sufficient funds and that no withdrawals for the same reason were made in the previous 12 months. To facilitate this process, Caixa will introduce a mobile agency to assist the affected population directly.

In addition to the financial assistance, Brazil's Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, indicated that the strategies and emergency measures implemented in response to the catastrophic situation in Rio Grande do Sul could also be utilized in Minas Gerais. This suggests a coordinated response at the federal level to manage the fallout of the ongoing severe weather and its repercussions on local communities. The emphasis on using proven tools signifies a commitment to rapid and effective relief efforts.

As the rains continue to affect the region, the local government and Caixa are expected to monitor the situation closely and offer additional support where necessary. This process not only aims to provide immediate financial relief but also focuses on restoring the region's stability following the environmental calamity, highlighting the importance of governmental preparedness in natural disasters.
