Rains in Minas Gerais: Porto Alegre and the government of RS mobilize to help affected cities

The city of Porto Alegre and the government of Rio Grande do Sul have launched initiatives to support municipalities in Minas Gerais affected by heavy rains and landslides.

Following intense rainfall and landslides in Minas Gerais, the city of Porto Alegre and the government of Rio Grande do Sul are taking action to assist affected municipalities such as Juiz de Fora and Ubá. Porto Alegre's municipal government initiated a donation campaign, while Governor Eduardo Leite has made state security forces available for emergency support. This coordinated effort emphasizes the importance of mutual assistance among municipalities as part of Brazil's national civil protection system.

The Municipal Civil Defense of Porto Alegre established two collection points to facilitate donations, which will be operational Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. Residents are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, mattresses, blankets, bedding, and pillows. This campaign highlights the community's response to the pressing needs of those affected by recent disasters and reflects a broader sense of solidarity.

The donation sites are located at the Municipal Civil Defense on Rua La Plata and at the Museum of Art of the Paço in Praça Montevideo. Items donated should be in good condition, allowing aid to reach those who have lost much to the recent natural disasters. These efforts showcase local government's responsiveness and commitment to disaster relief and the ongoing pursuit of collective support in times of crisis.
