A comprehensive document is set to guide the future management of streets in Kaunas' historic Old Town, covering an area of 99 hectares. This initiative marks a new phase in the urban development of the area, focusing on the needs of both the public and infrastructure while acknowledging the cultural and historical significance of the site. The plan is designed to enhance the livability of the Old Town, ensuring that any changes respect its heritage.
The document includes over a hundred pages detailing an analysis of the current situation and proposed conceptual solutions involving road surfaces, greenery, street furniture, traffic organization, service infrastructure, and heritage conservation aspects. It takes into consideration the historical development of the Old Town, the valuable features of its cultural heritage, urban structure, and the interconnections between streets and nearby sites. Additionally, various development scenarios were modeled to assess their potential impact and consultations organized with stakeholders.
