The National Institute of Meteorology in Brazil has issued a warning for severe weather conditions affecting 234 cities in Paraná.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a danger alert for heavy rains across 234 municipalities in Paraná as of Tuesday, October 26. The regions most impacted include the North and Northwest, the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, the Campos Gerais, and parts of the Central region. This alert is in place until 11:59 PM on Friday, October 27, with potential wind speeds reaching up to 100 km/h and rainfall amounts of up to 60 millimeters per hour or 100 mm throughout the day.
According to the Environmental Technology and Monitoring System of Paraná (Simepar), the weather is expected to remain unstable across much of the state on Tuesday. Rainfall is predicted to intensify in the coastal areas by late afternoon, while the Northwest began with cloudy conditions, with rain expected to increase in strength as temperatures rise, reaching maximums near 29 °C. The warnings highlight the potential for dangerous conditions that could affect transportation and safety in the region.
In addition to the main weather alert, other news from Paraná includes the sentencing of a former mayor and ex-secretary for embezzling 81,500 liters of diesel, indicating ongoing issues with governance that may compound the challenges faced by the region during this severe weather event.
