Port of Santos records the best January in history with a record in cargo movement

The Port of Santos in São Paulo had its best January ever, moving a record 12.7 million tons of cargo, influenced significantly by the agribusiness sector.

The Port of Santos, located on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, has achieved its best January on record, according to the Santos Port Authority (APS). In total, 12.7 million tons of cargo were handled during this month, marking a significant increase of 9.5% compared to January 2025. This growth is largely attributed to the agribusiness sector, particularly in the movement of sugar and soybeans. The previous record for January was set in 2024 with 11.9 million tons, indicating a substantial increase this year.

The breakdown of the cargo movement reveals impressive statistics for specific commodities. Sugar alone saw an increase of 36.8% in shipments, amounting to 1.57 million tons, while soybean shipments surged by 79.6%, reaching 1.56 million tons. This remarkable growth highlights the ongoing strength and influence of Brazil's agribusiness sector on the economy and the port's operations.

Additionally, January 2025 also set a record for the number of containers processed, with 467,000 TEUs handled, which is a 1.4% increase from the previous January. This uptick in container movement reflects not only the increased cargo volumes but also the enhanced efficiency of operations at the Port of Santos, solidifying its status as a vital logistics hub in Brazil.
