After heavy rainfall, over 100 neighborhoods in Cuiabá (MT) undergo water network maintenance
Heavy rain in Cuiabá has caused disruptions to the water supply across over 120 neighborhoods, leading to temporary outages as the water treatment facility works on repairs.
On Sunday, significant rainfall overwhelmed the city of Cuiabá, resulting in water supply disruptions across approximately 120 neighborhoods. This precipitation caused issues for Águas Cuiabá, the local water utility, as it diminished the flow of water in the supply system and clogged equipment at the Tijucal Water Treatment Station. The storm brought about intense flooding and debris washed into local waterways, subsequently blocking the intake protection screens for the water pumps.
The utility has dispatched teams to address the situation, focusing on cleaning and maintaining the infrastructure to ensure a safe resumption of water services. Residents in affected areas faced temporary suspensions in their water supply, although the company has assured the public that restoration efforts are underway and service will be gradually restored as operational stability allows.
In addition to water supply issues, the storm resulted in over 100 millimeters of rainfall, contributing to street flooding and affecting local health facilities. Remarkably, wildlife was also impacted, as a baby alligator was spotted in a local stream, highlighting the environmental effects of the extreme weather conditions in the urban landscape.
