Heat and rains increase dengue risk in Cuiabá after storm alert in MT
The city of Cuiabá is facing intense heat and high chances of rain, increasing the risk of dengue outbreaks.
In Cuiabá, the local government has issued a warning about intense heat and significant rainfall expected between Monday (9) and Friday (13). Environmental Health Surveillance reports that maximum temperatures may range between 29 °C and 33 °C, while humidity levels are anticipated to be between 38% and 56%. This combination of heat and rain could create favorable conditions for public health issues, especially due to the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, known to transmit diseases such as Dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya.
Moreover, the Environmental Health Surveillance emphasizes that frequent rains and high temperatures encourage the accumulation of stagnant water, which is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Consequently, residents are advised to take extra precautions by eliminating any containers that could collect water. This preventative measure is crucial given the rising threat posed by these insects during the upcoming weather conditions.
Additionally, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued two alerts signaling potential storm hazards in a yellow and orange warning for all 142 municipalities in Mato Grosso. This indicates that residents in the area should remain vigilant and prepared for possible severe weather disturbances, which could further exacerbate the health risks associated with mosquito-borne diseases like dengue.
