Cuiabá registers the highest rainfall volume in recent years; capital and MT remain under orange alert
Cuiabá has experienced its highest rainfall in recent years, causing the city and the state of Mato Grosso to remain under an orange alert for severe weather.
In February, Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso, recorded unprecedented rainfall levels, with accumulations reaching 274.4 millimeters, surpassing amounts from both 2024 and 2025. The data, provided by the National Institute of Meteorology, indicates that the city is experiencing a significant weather event that has prompted the local government to take action in preparation for potential flooding.
Following intense rainfall last Sunday, which saw certain areas of the city receive over 100 millimeters of rain within just a few hours, local authorities have been on high alert. The city administration remains vigilant, monitoring at-risk areas while maintaining direct communication with residents living in vulnerable regions to ensure their safety.
Furthermore, the entire state of Mato Grosso is under an orange alert due to the forecast of even more intense rainfall, with predictions of up to 60 millimeters per hour and daily totals of 50 to 100 millimeters. The Civil Defense is warning of possible localized flooding and high winds, emphasizing the need for preparedness and caution among the population as weather conditions remain severe throughout the month.
