Intercollegiate Film Festival to be held in Guayaquil

The Intercollegiate Film Festival (FIC) in Ecuador's Guayaquil is seeing significant growth in participation and quality, showcasing a large number of student-produced short films from across the country.

The Intercollegiate Film Festival (FIC) is set to take place in Guayaquil, highlighting a remarkable increase in both participation and the quality of submissions in this year's edition. Having received over 90 short films created by students from educational institutions nationwide, the festival reflects a growing engagement with film as a medium of expression and critical reflection. This year's event has drawn participation from 145 schools, surpassing the previous year’s registration of 138 schools, indicating a robust interest in audiovisual arts as a pedagogical and creative tool.

Notably, this year marks a significant advance in student film production, with the number of submitted works nearly doubling from last year's 68 films. The impressive array of short films, originating from 41 cities and towns across Ecuador—including major urban centers like Guayaquil, Quito, and Cuenca—showcases the diverse perspectives and storytelling capabilities of the country's youth. This influx of submissions underscores the expanding role of cinema in Ecuadorian education and culture.

In addition to the film showcases, the festival features interactive workshops such as 'Little Filmmakers,' aimed at introducing children to the world of cinema. This initiative not only seeks to nurture budding filmmakers but also to instill a deeper appreciation for the art form among the younger generations. The FIC continues to solidify its position as an important platform for young filmmakers and educational institutions across Ecuador, promoting creativity and critical thinking through the powerful medium of film.
