New promotion lines for the film and audiovisual industry in Ecuador announced by the ICCA
The ICCA has announced new funding initiatives for the Ecuadorian film and audiovisual sector, aiming to invest approximately $1.5 million to support 139 projects.
The Ecuadorian Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Creation (ICCA) has unveiled its funding lines for 2026 and 2027, projecting an investment of around $1.5 million to support 139 projects and professionals in the film and audiovisual industry. The director of ICCA, Rafael Barriga, highlighted the significance of these initiatives for promoting local cinema, exemplified by the film 'Hiedra', which won an award for best screenplay at the Venice Film Festival and will premiere in Ecuador on March 12. This project received funding from the ICCA's support fund.
Barriga emphasized the economic impact of film production, explaining how it stimulates various sectors of the economy. Moreover, he pointed out the importance of cultural identity in cinema, noting that Ecuadorian films reflect the country's unique accents, expressions, and lifestyles. By fostering a distinct national cinematography, the ICCA aims to elevate the representation of Ecuadorian narratives and cultural heritage on screen.
With the ICCA's new funding lines, the organization seeks to encourage more local filmmakers and audiovisual projects, enhancing the cultural landscape and providing audiences with films that resonate with their experiences. This initiative not only promotes economic growth within the industry but also serves to strengthen national identity through creative expression.
