Marcel Laniado de Wind Hydroelectric Plant Resumes Operations After Maintenance

The Marcel Laniado de Wind hydroelectric plant in Ecuador has resumed operations following scheduled corrective maintenance work on its components.

The Marcel Laniado de Wind hydroelectric plant, located in El Empalme, Guayas, has successfully resumed operations after completing scheduled corrective maintenance. This facility has a generation capacity of 213 megawatts (MW) and is part of the Multipurpose Jaime Roldós Aguilera Complex, renowned for housing the largest reservoir in the country, the Daule Peripa, which can hold approximately 6,000 hectometers of water. According to the Ecuadorian Electrical Corporation (Celec), the maintenance focused on strategic hydraulic components, including the replacement of seals in the first and third units and significant interventions on the butterfly valve of the second unit.

The maintenance work was carried out by the technical staff from the Hydronation Business Unit, which is responsible for the hydroelectric plant. The upgrades ensure that the plant can continue meeting energy demands with improved efficiency and reliability. The timely completion of these maintenance operations is essential for maintaining a stable power supply in the region, especially given the increasing energy needs of Ecuadorian industries and households.

The operation of the Marcel Laniado de Wind hydroelectric plant plays a critical role in the energy matrix of Ecuador, contributing to the country’s commitment to renewable energy sources. With the resumption of operations, it is expected that the plant will help alleviate the pressure on the national grid and support future energy projects as Ecuador continues to develop its hydropower capabilities.
