VIDEO: A fire broke out in Čiekurkalns; one person injured

A fire in a residential building in Čiekurkalns, Riga, resulted in one injury and the ongoing efforts of firefighters to control the situation.

On Monday evening, a fire broke out in a residential building located on Čiekurkalna 2nd Line in Riga, causing one person to be injured, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service. The authorities received an emergency call at 5:15 PM regarding the incident at the two-story building. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a couch and various household items were ablaze in an apartment on the second floor, covering roughly ten square meters of area.

Firefighters managed to rescue one injured individual from the burning apartment and another resident from a different apartment in the building. By 6 PM, the spread of the flames was contained, and firefighting efforts were still ongoing at the scene. The situation required swift action from the local fire department to mitigate further risk and damages.

Due to the fire, public transportation was affected, with the bus route number 9 temporarily closed along Čiekurkalna 2nd Line and Čiekurkalna 4th Crossing Line. Bus services heading towards Abrenes have been rerouted via an alternative route along Čiekurkalna 5th Crossing Line to Rusova Street, leading to some stops being skipped, as reported by Riga's public transport company, SIA "Rīgas satiksme."
