Fire rages in house – fire service had to retreat

A significant fire broke out in a residential building in Iggesund, forcing firefighters to retreat while two individuals were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

A large fire erupted in a multi-family residential building in Iggesund, within the Hudiksvall municipality. Flames were seen towering from the structure, prompting multiple fire units to respond around 8 PM. Andreas Wikström from the fire service indicated that the situation was severe enough that firefighters were forced to withdraw to ensure their safety as they worked to manage the blaze.

As the firefighting efforts continued, it was decided that the fire would be allowed to burn down under controlled conditions due to the intense nature of the flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials have not yet confirmed whether anyone was trapped inside the building. The priority of the fire service was to keep the situation contained while ensuring that no further individuals were at risk.

Emergency response teams reported that two people had been taken to the hospital, although their condition and the extent of their injuries remain unclear. This incident highlights the challenges faced by emergency services in dealing with uncontrolled fires in residential areas and raises concerns about fire safety protocols in multi-family housing units.
