Two Interpol Wanted Men Detained: One Romanian, One Lithuanian
Lithuanian border guards have arrested two men wanted by Interpol, one Romanian and one Lithuanian, in separate incidents at Kaunas airport and a bus checkpoint.
On Friday and Sunday, officials from the Vilnius Border Guard Service detained two individuals at Kaunas Airport and the Medininkai border control checkpoint, respectively. Both men, a Romanian and a Lithuanian, were subject to European arrest warrants issued due to ongoing criminal investigations. The Romanian citizen was apprehended after arriving on a flight from London, where he had been tracked by the International Criminal Police Organization since November 2022 on the request of German authorities.
The Lithuanian national, aged 52, was detected by border guards as part of routine document checks for incoming passengers. Once his identity was confirmed, and it was revealed that he was wanted internationally, he was placed under temporary arrest before being handed over to local police authorities. This incident underlines the effectiveness of international cooperation among law enforcement agencies in tracking and apprehending wanted criminals.
In a separate operation on Sunday morning, officials conducted checks on a public bus traveling from Minsk to Vilnius. During the inspection, they identified another individual who was also wanted and subsequently detained. These coordinated efforts by border patrols not only ensure compliance with immigration laws but also contribute significantly to public safety by removing individuals who are actively sought by international authorities.
