Over the weekend, border guards detained two men wanted by Interpol, citizens of Romania and Lithuania
Lithuanian border guards apprehended two men sought by Interpol upon their arrival from London, one of whom is a Lithuanian national wanted since November 2022, while another Romanian national was also detained for previous charges.
This weekend, Lithuanian border guards at Kaunas Airport detained two men upon their arrival on a flight from London. The action was part of routine checks conducted by the State Border Guard Service (VSAT). Among the detained was a 52-year-old man, a Lithuanian citizen residing in the UK, who has been wanted by Interpol since November 2022. The search for him was initiated by German police, and upon his identification, the VSAT officials informed the relevant authorities, resulting in his detention and transfer to local police.
In a separate incident, border guards also detained a 59-year-old Romanian citizen on a bus traveling from Minsk to Vilnius. This individual was wanted by Romania since December 2022. During routine inspections of public transportation, the VSAT officers discovered his outstanding warrants, demonstrating the ongoing collaboration and vigilance of border patrols in managing international crime.
These detentions highlight the effectiveness of Lithuania's border security operations in identifying and apprehending individuals wanted by law enforcement across Europe. Such operations not only prevent potential criminal activities but also reinforce international cooperation with law enforcement agencies, showcasing Lithuania's commitment to maintaining safety and security within its borders as part of broader European efforts.
