The snow has already begun to melt: where is it the most?
Various regions in Lithuania are experiencing significant snow cover, particularly in Western Lithuania, Raseiniai, and Pasvalys, while the southwestern part has the least.
On Monday morning, the thickest layer of snow, reaching over 45 cm in places, has formed in parts of Western Lithuania, as well as in the Raseiniai and Pasvalys districts. Most other regions of the country have snow depths ranging from 15 to 45 cm, while the least snow, measuring between 8 and 14 cm, is found in the southwestern part of the country. This uneven distribution of snowfall highlights the varying winter weather experiences across Lithuania.
In many areas, the frost layer beneath the snow measures between 3-4 cm and can reach 12-15 cm. The thickest frost layer has been recorded at meteorological stations in VarΔna, Kaunas, and Kybartai, where it reaches up to 35-38 cm. Interestingly, in places where the snow has been removed, the frost layer might be two to three times thicker, indicating a significant impact of snow cover on ground temperatures.
Rainfall is expected today and tomorrow, particularly in the southwestern part of the country, where snow is expected to melt at the fastest rate. Following the milder weather, Wednesday and Thursday are predicted to be drier and colder, but temperatures are expected to rise again starting Friday, suggesting a continued fluctuation in winter weather conditions across the region.
