Cedae postpones inspection at Guandu due to weekend rains
Cedae has postponed the inspection of the Guandu system due to heavy rains, ensuring that water supply will not be interrupted in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region.
Cedae, the water company in Rio de Janeiro, announced a rescheduling of the inspection originally set for the Guandu system on February 24, now moved to March 3. This decision comes in light of the heavy rains that impacted the Baixada Fluminense region over the weekend, particularly in Nova Iguaรงu, where flooding was reported. The postponement of this inspection ensures that residents in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region will continue to receive water uninterrupted.
The inspection will take place between 4 AM and 10 PM on the new date. During this time, the Guandu Water Treatment Station (ETA) will operate at only 50% capacity. This operation mode is necessary to allow for internal assessments while still managing to provide some level of water service to the surrounding areas. However, there remains a risk of reduced water supply and potential temporary interruptions in the city center as well as the North and South zones of Rio, alongside neighboring municipalities such as Belford Roxo and Duque de Caxias.
The decision aims to maintain service continuity despite adverse weather conditions, reflecting Cedae's operational priorities in managing infrastructure and responding to environmental challenges. It highlights the vulnerability of urban water supply systems in the face of climate-related incidents, underscoring the need for proactive maintenance and emergency preparedness to safeguard community resources.
