The committee supports the plan to significantly increase municipal support for the Riga Marathon

The Education, Culture, and Sports Committee of the Riga City Council has approved a plan to increase funding for the Riga Marathon to 300,000 euros.

This week, the Education, Culture, and Sports Committee of the Riga City Council endorsed a proposal to increase municipal funding for the Riga Marathon to 300,000 euros. This marks a significant rise from the previous support level of 191,060 euros, which was itself an increase from 81,060 euros just a year earlier. The intense support for the marathon indicates the city's commitment to promoting sports events and cultural activities that enhance community engagement and tourism.

During the committee meeting, it was explained that the municipal support represents about 15% of the overall budget for the marathon. This substantial funding aims to ensure the successful organization of the event, which not only fosters local pride but also attracts international participants and visitors. The approval underscores the city's strategy to bolster major sporting events as part of its broader economic and social development goals.

Additionally, it was reported that the Riga City Council had previously entered into a five-year agreement with SIA "Nords Event Communications" to manage the marathon's organization. This partnership aims to create a more professionally organized event that can elevate the reputation of the Riga Marathon on an international scale. Such investments are expected to yield benefits not only for the athletes but also for the local economy through increased tourism and local business participation in the marathon festivities.
