Applications Open for the Riga Marathon Program “Inclusive Marathon”, Special Call for Assistants

The Riga Marathon has launched an application process for its Inclusive Marathon program, specifically inviting organizations and individuals, while also emphasizing the need for suitable assistants for participants with mobility challenges.

The Riga Marathon is embracing inclusivity with the launch of its program titled 'Inclusive Marathon', encouraging applications from organizations across Latvia and individual participants. The total cap for the event is set at 1000 spots, divided equally between 500 athletes with mobility and functional disabilities and their respective 500 assistants. The spirit of this initiative aims to foster a supportive environment where participants can both enjoy and achieve their goals together.

Particularly noteworthy is the call for assistants, individuals who are fit and capable of not just completing the distance themselves, but also in aiding a wheelchair participant in overcoming the marathon's challenges. This collaboration is designed not only to enhance the experience for those with disabilities but also to promote solidarity and the joy of accomplishment in a marathon setting. Registration for the Inclusive Marathon will be open from February 17 to April 30, or until the participant limit is met, with a symbolic entry fee of 3 euros.

Moreover, the marathon will cater to diverse abilities by allowing participants to choose distances suitable for them. The most popular distanced events, such as 6 km and the 'mile' (1609 meters), will feature a special starting arrangement, ensuring a fair and organized race for all. Other races will have participants starting alongside all other marathon runners, thus emphasizing inclusivity and the communal spirit of the event, as highlighted by the organizing body, the association Sports for Everyone.
