Support for Popular Sports Events Allocated 312,000 Euros

The Latvian government has approved the redistribution of 312,683 euros to support the organization of public sports events this year.

On Tuesday, the Latvian government agreed to a proposal from the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) to redistribute funds amounting to 312,683 euros for the organization of socially significant popular sports events this year. This funding adjustment is intended to bolster the budget of popular sports activities, addressing the lack of available financial resources to meet the requests from sports federations. Previously, only 190,000 euros were allocated for popular sports events this year, significantly less than the 416,000 euros that were spent last year, which was also inadequate to cover all submitted project proposals.

The new funding will enable the total allocation for popular sports events this year to reach 500,000 euros, which reflects a significant increase aimed at promoting community involvement in physical activities. The Ministry has recognized that the current financial support for sports is insufficient and this redistribution is essential to facilitate more extensive community engagement in sports. The decision also underscores the government's commitment to fostering a healthier lifestyle among its citizens through increased physical activity.

Specific allocations from this redistributed amount to various sports federations will be determined after assessments of submitted applications and event budgets. The overall goal is to enhance participation in physical activities among the population, ensuring that more residents have access to opportunities for engaging in sports, which can lead to improved public health and social cohesion in Latvia.
