With training in Mežapark, the "Rimi" Riga Marathon will open the spring sports season
The Rimi Riga Marathon continues its tradition of Sunday training sessions in Mežapark, providing support and group activities for runners of all skill levels leading up to the marathon.
The Rimi Riga Marathon has been bringing together hundreds of sports and running enthusiasts every Sunday since 2009. This year, the training sessions will continue until the marathon start, offering professional support and organized groups tailored to various fitness levels. The initiative encourages community involvement and aims to inspire both beginner and experienced runners.
Head coach Arnis Ozoliņš emphasized that preparing in groups for individual sports can be more inspiring and helps participants aim for greater goals in running. He explained that the training sessions in Mežapark are not merely preparatory; they also teach individuals how to run smartly, safely, and with genuine joy. The focus includes proper warm-up techniques, running form, and cool-down methods, fostering a sense of community among runners.
Over the past eight years, since Arnis became involved in organizing the training, participants have been divided into pace groups, accommodating both novices and seasoned runners. This structured approach has led to remarkable progress among participants, illustrating the effectiveness of group training in enhancing individual performance and motivation.
