Studies for the new train between Santos and Cajati are expected to be ready by 2028; investment is up to R$ 21 billion
The CPTM is developing a new 223-kilometer railway project between Santos and Cajati, expected to be completed by 2028 with an investment of up to R$ 21 billion.
The Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) is engaged in developing a new railway line that will connect Santos to Cajati, a project that spans 223 kilometers and includes stations in 13 different municipalities. As of now, the functional designs and aerial photogrammetric survey for the project have been completed, and the engineering pre-project has commenced to further develop the transit connection between the Baixada Santista region and Cajati.
This engineering document is vital as it will facilitate integrated contracting or a potential concession, and it aims to define the technical conception of the railway line along with planning for the necessary construction and engineering services. The initiative is part of the broader agenda of the São Paulo state government, focusing on territorial inclusion, sustainable mobility, and regional development, which are critical themes in the state's infrastructure strategy.
The completion of this project is anticipated by 2028, and it reflects a significant investment of up to R$ 21 billion. Such funding highlights the commitment of the state government to improve public transportation infrastructure, which should enhance connectivity and mobility within the region, catering to the future needs of a growing urban population and improving access to various urban areas across the state.
