Construction of the Intercity Train linking Campinas to São Paulo will begin in March, says concessionaire

The construction of the Intercity Train Eixo Norte (TIC) connecting Campinas and São Paulo is set to commence in March, ahead of the previously scheduled date.

The Intercity Train Eixo Norte (TIC), intended to connect Campinas and São Paulo with a maximum speed of 140 km/h, will start construction in March, as confirmed by Pedro Moro, the president of TIC Trens. The news was announced during the 250th Ordinary Meeting of the RMC Council held at the Palácio da Cidade. Initially, construction was expected to begin in May, but the timeline was accelerated due to the concessionaire's successful submission of projects and obtaining necessary licenses from regulatory agencies.

The concessionaire's eagerness to begin work reflects a significant step in regional transportation development. The TIC project is aimed at easing traffic congestion between these two bustling cities and promises to enhance mobility for commuters. The operational launch of the intercity train is anticipated for 2031, showcasing a long-term investment in infrastructure that could cater to the growing population and urbanization in Brazil.

Alongside the Intercity Train, there are plans to implement the Inter-Metropolitan Train service, which will make stops at Louveira and other locations, indicating an expansion of the rail network. This development is crucial as it underscores the importance of integrating public transportation to offer more efficient travel alternatives in the densely populated São Paulo metropolitan area.
