A police officer in Hyogo Prefecture has been accused of embezzling a wallet belonging to a colleague, which contained about 90,000 yen, and was subsequently found to have been working illegally as an escort driver.
A 24-year-old police officer from the Hyogo Prefectural Police has been placed under investigation for allegedly embezzling a wallet containing approximately 90,000 yen, which belonged to a fellow officer. The incident occurred on July 31 last year when the officer picked up the wallet, which had been dropped by a colleague in their workplace in Kobe. Following the police's report regarding the missing wallet, the investigation revealed that the officer had confessed to his wrongdoing, claiming to have used the money for personal expenses such as food and vehicle maintenance, and even stated that he disposed of the wallet in the sea.
In addition to the embezzlement, the investigation uncovered that the officer had been working as a driver for an unlicensed escort service from January to October last year, earning approximately 900,000 yen from this side job. This revelation led to disciplinary action from the police department, resulting in a three-month suspension for the officer, who has since resigned on the same day he was notified of the charges against him.
