Finding a wallet in a convenience store toilet... A Self-Defense Force member who took 700,000 yen was dismissed for disciplinary reasons

A Self-Defense Forces member in Japan was dismissed for stealing 700,000 yen from a wallet left in a convenience store toilet.

A member of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force was dismissed after being found to have stolen 700,000 yen from a wallet left in a convenience store toilet. This incident occurred on October 27 last year, when the 32-year-old soldier, who belonged to the 37th Infantry Regiment, discovered the wallet while off duty in Itami, Hyogo Prefecture, and decided to take the money. The soldier reported to his unit in January that he had been under police investigation related to the incident, during which he admitted to the theft, claiming it was a moment of impulse. Although criminal charges were not pursued, the army deemed the act serious enough to warrant disciplinary dismissal.
