A person injured in Smiltene municipality due to fire at the stove

A fire incident in Smiltene municipality resulted in one person being injured due to flames spreading from a stove to the floor and firewood.

On Thursday, an incident in Gaujiena Parish of Smiltene municipality led to one individual suffering injuries after a fire ignited at a stove, causing flames to spread to the floor and nearby firewood. The State Fire and Rescue Service reported that they received an emergency call around 1 PM regarding the situation in a first-floor apartment of a two-story residential building. Upon arrival, responders found a one square meter area where the floor and firewood were burning and quickly began to treat the injured party, who was later handed over to medical personnel.

Later in the evening, at approximately 8 PM, another emergency call came from Čornaja Parish in Rēzekne municipality, where a chimney fire had occurred in a single-story residential home. About nine people evacuated the premises before the firefighters arrived. Throughout the previous 24 hours, firefighters responded to a variety of incidents, including fires involving passenger vehicles, household items, waste, an industrial building, and even a residential home, along with cookery-related incidents where unattended food burned.

In total, the emergency service received 45 calls, of which 14 were for fire extinguishing, 19 were rescue operations, while 12 calls were found to be false alarms. Notably, in Babīte Parish of Mārupes municipality on Thursday, rescuers also saved a cat from smoke-filled rooms, highlighting the diverse nature of their emergency responses during that period.
