Yonsei University's K-NIBRT Project Group Completes First Training Course of Bio-Health Academy 'Bio-All'
Yonsei University's K-NIBRT Project Group reported the successful completion of the first training course of the 'Bio-All' Bio-Health Academy, with 49 students graduating.
On February 12, the K-NIBRT Project Group at Yonsei University announced that a total of 49 students successfully completed the first training course of the 'K-NIBRT Bio-Health Academy Bio-All.' This initiative is part of a collaborative project funded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, aiming to establish a system for training specialists in the bio-health sector, which is set to be designated as a new advanced industry by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2025. The program is designed to ensure that South Korea develops a trained workforce to meet industry needs as the bio-health field expands.
The training course distinguishes itself by enhancing the global standards of bio-process education set by Ireland's NIBRT to better align with domestic industrial demands. The curriculum is built around practical training that reflects the actual process flows of bio companies, moving beyond mere theoretical delivery. Over the course of approximately three months, students engaged in theory education, hands-on training, and industry-related projects. The theoretical portion took place over four weeks at Yonsei University's International Campus in Songdo, focusing on topics such as the basics of biotechnology, production processes, quality control, next-generation technologies, and bioregulations, all critical for the industry.
The hands-on training further extended for four weeks at the K-NIBRT Training Center, which features state-of-the-art integrated infrastructure to mimic real industry operations from upstream to downstream processes and quality control analysis. This unique training setup allowed students to gain firsthand experience in operating equipment and processing samples as practiced by professionals in the field. Additionally, a corporate linkage project with the global life sciences company Sartorius Korea BioTech provided students with about three weeks of real-time learning at their Global R&D Center, enhancing their practical skills and understanding of workplace processes.
