Alto Tietê sees a 44.4% decrease in traffic deaths in January, according to Infosiga

Alto Tietê recorded a significant decrease in traffic fatalities in January 2025 compared to the previous year, although it remains one of the deadliest in recent years.

In January 2025, the Alto Tietê region of Brazil witnessed a 44.4% reduction in traffic deaths, with reported fatalities dropping from 18 in January 2024 to 10 in the current year. This notable decline is attributed to various safety measures and awareness campaigns implemented in the area. Nonetheless, it is significant to note that January 2025 remains one of the deadliest months recorded since 2015, indicating ongoing challenges in road safety despite the recent improvement.

The city of Suzano recorded the highest number of traffic fatalities in January 2025, with three deaths reported, while several other municipalities, including Biritiba-Mirim, Guararema, Santa Isabel, and Salesópolis, reported no traffic-related deaths at all. Arujá and Mogi das Cruzes each saw two fatalities, while Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Poá recorded one each. The data highlights instabilities in safety outcomes across the region, emphasizing the need for focused interventions in areas with higher incidents of traffic fatalities.

Analyzing the nature of the accidents, it was found that motorcycles were involved in four of the ten fatal incidents, indicating a significant correlation between motorcycle use and traffic fatalities in the region. As the local government and safety authorities continue to address this issue, it will be imperative to concentrate on educational campaigns for motorcyclists, enforcement of traffic laws, and perhaps further infrastructure improvements to foster safer roadways for all users, especially in accident-prone areas.
