Registrations rise 15.2% in Alto Tietê in January

Alto Tietê saw a 15.2% increase in new vehicle registrations in January, compared to the same month last year, totaling 1,763.

In January, the Alto Tietê region registered 1,763 new vehicle registrations, according to data from the São Paulo State Traffic Department (Detran-SP). This figure marks a 15.2% increase over the same month in 2025. The statistics encompass a variety of vehicle types, including cars, motorcycles, trucks, and buses. Notably, Mogi das Cruzes led the region with 668 registrations, followed by Suzano with 285 and Itaquaquecetuba with 255. Smaller municipalities like Salesópolis and Biritiba-Mirim reported significantly lower numbers, with registrations of only 13 and 37 respectively.

Looking back at the entire year of 2025, Alto Tietê recorded a total of 22,787 new vehicle registrations, reflecting a decrease of 5.4% compared to 2024, when there were 24,104 new vehicles registered. This annual decline illustrates the shifting dynamics in the local automotive market. The data indicates that despite the recent surge, the overall trend for the year is somewhat downward, raising questions about market stability and consumer demand moving forward.

Interestingly, motorcycles were the most registered type of vehicle in eight out of ten cities across the region in January, accounting for a total of 595 registrations. The high motorcycle registration numbers suggest a growing consumer preference for two-wheeled vehicles in the area, possibly due to factors such as affordability, convenience for urban commuting, and changing transportation habits among residents.
