Carnival Operation: PRF records 11 accidents and two deaths on federal highways in Pará

The PRF reported 11 traffic accidents and two fatalities during the Carnival Operation in Pará, conducted from February 13 to 17.

The Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) released a partial report on the Carnival Operation, which took place from February 13 to 17, focusing on federal highways in Brazil. During this period, the operation documented 11 traffic accidents that resulted in two fatalities and left 15 individuals injured. The majority of accidents were categorized as severe, with a significant concentration on the BR-155, where five incidents occurred. Other highways affected included BR-230, BR-308, BR-316, and BR-163.

A crucial aspect of this year's operation was the efforts to combat driving under the influence of alcohol. The PRF intensified awareness and enforcement actions to minimize accidents related to alcohol consumption and other violations. To aid in this endeavor, a total of 3,435 breathalyzer tests were conducted, alongside the inspection of 5,803 individuals and 4,313 vehicles. The campaign also resulted in 475 speed violations being recorded, highlighting the ongoing issues of unsafe driving practices during the festive period.

Additionally, as part of their operations, the PRF recovered five vehicles reported stolen or robbed, reflecting an overarching goal of not only ensuring road safety during Carnival but also addressing vehicle theft. The statistics encourage further discussions on road safety measures in Brazil, especially during high-traffic events like Carnival, where alcohol consumption tends to spike. The PRF's proactive measures indicate an ongoing commitment to improving road safety and reducing casualties on Brazilian highways.
